Rosh Hashanah Recipes

Editor's Note: With Rosh Hashanah a few weeks away, now is the time to start preparing the menus! As is the case with all the Jewish holidays, Rosh Hashanah has specific foods that we eat. Three of these are apples, honey and carrots. We begin the meal by dipping the apple in the honey and asking G-d to bless us with sweet, good year. We also cook with honey and traditionally eat honey cake. Carrots are also eaten for their sweetness and because the Yiddish word for "carrot," meren, means "to increase" and we want all good things to increase during the year. Furthermore, the Hebrew word gezer is from the same word as "judgements," gezeirot, and we want all our judgements to be postive, good and sweet.

Below you will find recipes from professional cooks using these foods, and we invite you to send your favorite recipes as well. Please send your recipes by clicking here. (Make sure to include your name and where you are from). Enjoy!
