The deeply moving tones of this melody give expression to the significance of
the verse. The heavenly call of the G-dly voice awakens and summons man's soul to
permit G-dliness to enter his heart. In the last phrase of the melody we have the
reply of the soul. It is ready to fulfill its mission of the heavenly design to
illuminate the world with sanctity through Torah and Mitzvoth.
This melody is one of the ten composed by the Alter Rebbe himself. The Previous
Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Yoseph Yitzchok, once explained that with the power
inherent in this melody the Alter Rebbe could purify and refine a Jewish soul.
